In earlier post we have already told about preliminary examination pattern which is most commonly known as CSAT pattern as of now. After qualifying the preliminary examination, an aspirant will be able to sit for the mains
UPSC mains and interview pattern + Syllabus details
examination. The mains examination is of written type and it consist of following papers:

Papers of Qualifying Nature:

Paper : A - One of the Indian Language to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution. It will be of 300 Marks

Paper : B -  English is another paper of qualifying nature but its compulsory for all candidates appering into the mains examination.

Interview Process:

After completing the mains examination candidates will need to appear in the Interview process.
There will be a board of members assigned for candidates to appear before them. They ask questions based on their academic career and personal thoughts about different things of their interest. They try to assess the personality of candidates, whether they are internally ready for becoming a civil servant or not? Their mental awareness and intellectual capability along with their balance of judgement, ability of tackling with social situations and leadership qualities are also evaluated.
Interview process held in very comfortable environment. The panel always try to assess the best qualities within a candidate. The panel never consider your academic or general knowledge test, which has already been evaluated in the preliminary and main examinations.
